Why does most of China’s chromium ore come from South Africa? Most of China’s chromium ore is imported from South Africa because: although many countries in the world have chromium ore resources, South Africa is the world’s largest chromium ore producer, and its reserves and output are among the highest in the world. China is the world’s largest chromium consumer, but domestic chromium resources are severely scarce, mainly distributed in remote western regions such as Tibet, Xinjiang, Qinghai, and Gansu. China needs to import a large amount of chromium ore every year, among which South African chromium ore has become the preferred imported raw material for Chinese foundry companies due to its high quality and stability.
