Why can chrome ore sand be used as high temperature casting material?

First, chromium ore sand has excellent refractory properties. Its chemical composition is mainly Cr2O3, which can remain stable in high temperature environment and is not easy to melt and deform. This characteristic enables chromium ore sand to maintain a stable shape and size during high-temperature casting, ensuring the quality of the castings. ‌

Secondly, chrome ore sand has high hardness and wear resistance. It can withstand the impact and wear of high-speed flowing metal liquid, extend the service life of the mold, reduce the wear marks on the surface of the casting, and improve the surface quality of the casting. ‌

In addition, chrome ore sand has high thermal conductivity and can quickly conduct heat, which helps the uniform cooling and solidification of metal liquid, reduce the stress and defects inside the casting, and improve the structural density and mechanical properties of the casting. ‌

‌Chrome ore sand also has good corrosion resistance, can resist the erosion and erosion of metal liquid, maintain the flatness and precision of the mold surface, reduce the generation of pores, inclusions and defects in the casting, and improve the yield and quality of the casting. ‌

‌The thermal expansion coefficient of chromium ore sand is moderate, matching the thermal expansion coefficient of most metals, reducing the deformation and stress concentration of castings, and improving the dimensional accuracy and shape stability of castings‌.
‌Chrome ore sand has a wide range of applications, including sand casting, lost foam casting and shell casting. In the casting of large thick-walled castings, chromium ore sand is used in conjunction with sand casting, furan resin self-hardening sand, water glass self-hardening sand and other processes for large-volume and heavy cast iron and steel castings. In lost foam casting, the selection of chromium ore sand with appropriate particle size can prevent defects such as sand inclusion and sticking caused by quartz sand casting. In shell casting, chromium ore sand can be used as the core sand material of complex parts to make sand cores for the production of high-precision, smooth-surface castings‌.
